​Nijo Castle

[About 10 minutes on foot]

This castle was built by Ieyasu Tokugawa to protect the Kyoto Imperial Palace where the emperor lived and to serve as lodgings for the shogun when he visited Kyoto.

Horinji Temple
(Dharma Temple)

[About 8 minutes on foot]

It belongs to the Myoshin-ji school of the Rinzai sect. In the Daruma Hall, a variety of Darumas from all over the country line up, centered on a Dharma doll said to be the best in the three countries that gets up when knocked down.

Shinsenen

Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is a shrine located in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City. It is one of the Twenty-Two Shrines. The old shrine rank was Kanpei Chusha, and it is currently a separate shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines. It was formerly known as Kitano Shrine.
